INTERN PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Applications are invited for internships at the British Consulate-General, Chongqing. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to participate in the various activities of the Consulate-General and so gain a unique perspective of the work of a British Diplomatic Mission overseas. The internships are not salaried but a small stipend will be paid and all expenses will be reimbursed. The hours of work are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, however, occasionally extra hours maybe required.

The duties and responsibilities of the internships will vary depending upon which section they are assigned to, however, it will be possible during the course of the placement for the successful candidates to obtain a good understanding of the entire operation of the Consulate-General.

The desired attributes we are looking for in potential interns are as follows:

· Integrity and honesty

· Fluency in both written and spoken Chinese and English

· Good communication and presentational skills

· Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team

· Good computer skills (Word, Access, Excel, Outlook and Internet)

· Can demonstrate an interest in the United Kingdom and international affairs

Application process

All applications for an internship should be sent to Beverley Simpson at the British Consulate-General no later than 30 June 2005. Applicants are requested to send in a CV with photo and a letter of application, both of which must be hand-written in English.

The letter of application must include the following information:

· The first date you are available to start and the date you must finish the internship

· What are your main objectives for undertaking the internship

· What skills and expertise you have that make you ideally suited for an internship

· What is the one thing you hope to take away from the experience

Interviews will take place in early July. Only those invited to interview will receive a reply to their application.
